Skincare Routine For Sensitive Skin

There are different skin types. Many have sensitive skin. Your skin easily gets irritated and experiences problems caused by the external environment. You can’t just use any skincare products because your skin might react to it negatively; it gets itchy, dry, and reddish. Worse, this might cause a nasty breakout!   • Go for a soap-free, fragrance-free cleanser

You might be tempted to use cleansers that smell like a rose garden in full bloom, but fragrance is a big no-no if you have sensitive skin. Choose a cleanser that is soap-free and fragrance-free. Look for products that contain licorice and colloidal oatmeal as they have anti-inflammatory properties. Be careful when using products with essential oils too as they can also irritate your skin.

  • Keep your skin hydrated

The worst enemy of sensitive skin is inadequate moisture. Make sure to keep your skin hydrated to minimize the risk of irritation and breakouts. Use a moisturizer that is non-comedogenic so that you can be sure that you won’t have problems with blocked pores. Choose products that contain ceramides too as it helps strengthen your skin. You might also like to apply them while your skin is still a bit damp to help seal the skin’s surface moisture. 

  • Choose the right facial scrub

You might think that facial scrubbing is a luxury that you can never experience because of your sensitive skin. The truth is, facial scrubs are important even on sensitive skin to remove elements that can trigger irritation such as oil, dirt, and make-up. However, make sure to use products that contain vitamin B5 and vitamin E as they are gentle to the skin and at the same time helps make it soft and smooth.   

  • Soothe allergic reactions

Skin irritation and allergic reactions are probably typical scenarios for individuals with sensitive skin. It is a typical reaction of the immune system when foreign components interact with it. Early signs of flushing or redness can be eased with a cold compress or even splash of cold water. The cold temperature can help constrict the blood vessels on the skin reducing its redness. You can also apply aloe vera to the affected area. Aloe vera contains anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which soothe irritation and dry skin. If the allergic reaction persists, you can opt for an over-the-counter cortisone cream for relief. 

  • Visit your dermatologist regularly

The dermatologist is a professional that has enough knowledge of your sensitive skin and the right medication to manage it. Dealing with your sensitive skin on your own may just harm your skin more and make the condition worse. Remember, there is no shoe that fits all. Other people’s skincare routines may work for them but that doesn’t mean it should also work for you. Pay your dermatologist a visit to properly diagnose your skincare issues. They can also prescribe you with the right medication and skincare products that will not irritate your skin further.
