Most people are already aware of the purpose of Botox. This injectable solution works to combat expression lines and restore a more rested, youthful appearance to your face. The question then becomes, when is a good time to start Botox? Should you start receiving injections when you notice wrinkles starting to appear? Below we have compiled some information regarding when the best time is to start getting Botox injections.

But first, what is Botox? This injectable is a purified protein solution that is useful for correcting dynamic wrinkles. These are wrinkles that form when you make expressions, like smiling or frowning. These are different than the wrinkles that form due to loss of facial volume, which are known as static wrinkles.

After your first series of injections you can expect the results to last up to four months. After this time the results will begin to fade, which is when you can schedule a follow-up appointment. Botox works to relax the muscles over time, which means you will need fewer injections the longer you use Botox. Most of our clients see results a few days after the injections, but peak results tend to appear up to two weeks after your appointment.

While Botox can be used to correct wrinkles that have already appeared, the best time to start Botox is really when you don’t have very many wrinkles at all. You see, Botox works to relax the muscles that are responsible for creating dynamic wrinkles. If you are proactive in your skin care and you start getting injections before those muscles have a chance to make wrinkles, then the wrinkles that eventually do appear will be much shallower and less noticeable.

The real answer to this question, however, is that basically any time is a good time to start Botox. You can get the injections before you see any wrinkles, or you can start the injections after you already have a fair amount of dynamic wrinkles in place. The choice is yours.

Good candidates for this treatment typically include anyone who is suffering from dynamic wrinkles, or anyone who wants to prevent the appearance of dynamic wrinkles in the future. Certain patients should not be treated, such as pregnant women or people with certain neurological disorders. We can discuss your candidacy in greater detail when you come in for your consultation.

Since Botox does not treat static wrinkles, you can speak with our educated staff about getting facial fillers at or around the same time you get Botox injections. Fillers are used for filling out areas of the face that have lost volume, which tends to result in wrinkles. If you opt to have Botox and fillers performed at the same time then you are effectively treating all of the wrinkles on your face.
