Restylane-L® and Perlane-L® Injectable Gels involves no risk of animal-based allergic reaction. Because Restylane® products are non-animal based, treatments do not require pre-testing. Restylane® products are clinically proven to give a much longer lasting effect than collagen.
What are the treatments like?
Restylane® family products are injected into the skin in tiny amounts using an ultrafine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. Results are practically instantaneous. To maximize comfort the area is anesthetized prior to treatment.
How long do the benefits last?
Restylane® lasts approximately six to eight months. Treatments are typically scheduled twice a year. Touch-up treatments scheduled before the product is completely dissipated enhances lasting and ongoing effects.
What are the side effects and restrictions?
Common side effects after treatment include temporary redness and swelling at the injection site. Patients should avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s Wort, and high doses of vitamin E for one week after treatment as they can increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site. Cold compresses used immediately after injection help reduce potential swelling. Within 6 hours of treatment patients should avoid touching the area, exercising, or drinking alcohol. Patients who have previously experienced facial cold sores may suffer a risk that needle punctures could contribute to another occurrence. Until the initial redness and swelling resolve-usually two to three days—avoid exposure of the treated area to the intense heat associated with sauna, steam, or sunbathing.
