Popular in Europe for decades and now one of the most commonly used skin treatments in the United States, Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical skin exfoliating procedure that evens out the skins appearance and texture.
The treatment can be done individually or in a series. Blackheads are loosened, white heads become less prominent, hyper pigmentation lightens and acne scars, enlarged pores & wrinkles become less prominent. Microdermabrasion is very effective for reducing sun spots and aging spots). Blood, containing oxygen and nutrients, is drawn to the surface to feed, repair, and generate new skin cells.
What are the treatments like?
Aluminum oxide crystals (the second hardest material after diamond) are projected onto the skin in a safe and uniform manner. They painlessly exfoliate layers of the epidermis(outermost layer of the skin). These crystals, along with dead skin cells, are vacuumed into a closed filter container and discarded. A control gauge allows increased or decreased vacuuming for a more aggressive or gentle peel. The treatment can be used on any part of the body.
Is the treatment painful?
The procedure is painless.
Who should avoid this method?
Almost everyone can benefit from microdermabrasion, but patients taking certain medications or who have an active inflammatory skin condition may need to postpone treatment.
How soon will I see the results?
Changes are evident after the first treatment. The process of microdermabrasion should be used in a series of at least five peels in order to achieve a lasting effect. Treatments are generally scheduled three to four weeks apart, depending on the aggressiveness of the peel.
