Is Cellulite Reduction Right for You?

While it was once a procedure designated for the wealthy or those based in Hollywood, cellulite reduction treatments are becoming more and more popular throughout just about every demographic. To reiterate what cellulite is and does, it can be simplified down to a situation where a person’s normal fat becomes noticeable due the fact that it pushes up against connective tissue.

Cellulite is generally found in the thighs and areas right below the buttocks. It is much more common in women than men, which is mostly due to the differences in the way connective tissue, muscle, and fat are distributed in men and women.

What Causes Cellulite?

As has been mentioned, the development of cellulite is completely normal. While not every person experiences it, genes, thickness of skin, body fat, and age all play a factor in whether or not cellulite is developed on your body. A few other potential issues that cause cellulite include slow metabolism, hormone changes, poor dieting, and lack of physical activity.

Solutions for Getting Rid of Cellulite

With the fact that cellulite is basically fat, it would obviously make sense that cutting down on weight through diet and exercise would be the most rational option for reducing cellulite. While this is generally true, it does not always work that way.

One of the more common methods for reducing the appearance of cellulite is to use a lotion or cream. The two lotions/creams used most often for this purpose include caffeine based options, which provide a temporary tightening effect, and a vitamin A derivative. The vitamin A derivative is designed to serve as a way to thicken the skin on the outer layer, therefore making lumps less visible.

Reduction Procedures Performed by Professionals

In addition to the more natural options listed above, individuals with cellulite can also choose to go with one of the many reduction procedures performed by professionals. One of the most popular procedures, Endermologie, is a process that involves the kneading of the skin in an attempt to increase circulation and stimulate the production of collagen. This procedure generally requires 6-8 sessions and can cost between $75-$150 per session.

Another option for affected individuals include the use of lasers or radio frequency devices. These procedures are generally done by dermatologists or plastic surgeons and will set you back at least $300/session. While the results are quite good for most patients, they tend to last for only about six months to a year.

The last, and most intense option, is laser assisted liposuction. While it can be exceptionally effective, the cost of one session is about $5,000 and requires local anesthesia.

Is It Right for You?

Determining whether cellulite reduction is right for you will, more than likely, come down to factors such as your financial situation and just how important it is for you to remove the cellulite from your body. Hopefully this short article will enable you to make a better decision about what cellulite treatment option is best for your needs.
